Advancing your Motivational Interviewing - Coastal West Sussex MIND

What is the event?

This is a full day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.

This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, West Sussex County Council and Joint Diversity.

Course Aims To provide an overview of the model and re-visit its foundations. This course is aimed at practitioners who have done a basic MI skills training and wish to extend and develop their understanding of the approach and its application to their practice. It aims to provide practitioners with additional opportunity to practise the model to enable them to use it more often and with more confidence.

Course Overview This course provides an additional and sufficient grounding to enable you to use the technique confidently in your practice. It is also an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the approach’s unique style of talking and questioning.

This course covers the main elements including:

Identifying and resolving ambivalence Identifying intrinsic motivation and aspirations Change and commitment questions and talk Identifying resources and strengths Enhancing confidence Identifying goals Drawing action plans. Getting to the venue The nearest train station is Chichester rail station which is a 10 minute walk to New Park Centre. There is some free on-site car parking which is on a first come first served basis and not able to be reserved. There are also four disabled car parking spaces in site. Next to New Park is a large public car park with pay and display.

Timing The course runs from 09.30am - 4pm.

This course is heavily subsidised as it is a funded programme. Our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up.
