Beacon House - Food Frenzy

Event

What is the event?

Is your child a picky eater? Do they struggle to mix their foods on the plate? Are they slow to eat? Do you worry that they aren’t getting all the nutrients they need? This one day workshop co-run by an occupational therapist and a nutritional therapist will look at these issues from a unique whole mind and body perspective.

Part One will include:

•Why some children have eating difficulties and how food difficulties emerge.

•How the mouth, swallowing and physiological difficulties cause issues around eating.

•The influences of trauma on eating.

•Sensory disturbances and eating.

•Overcoming sensory motor challenges to eating.

Part Two will include:

•Intolerances and allergies; what foods can aggravate symptoms, how do they affect eating difficulties? How can we test for these?

•What are the key nutrients and where do we find them?

•Which foods should be avoided and why?

•What is the link between gastrointestinal health and autism spectrum and behavioural conditions?
