What is the event?

This is a one day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI) 1 day course

With emphasis on working with children, young people and families

Motivational Interviewing is a refined guiding approach that uses counselling skills and techniques to encourage clients into deciding to make positive behavioural changes. It originated in the drugs and alcohol field, but has been successfully used in many other fields and behaviours including smoking, eating, sexual behaviour, offending behaviour and many other behaviour choices. MI strategies avoid confrontational methods, because the aim is to get the client to be the one who presents the arguments for change.

The course aims to: •Introduce the principles of MI. •Introduce and practise MI strategies and skills. •Examine different possible applications of MI specifically when working with children, young people and families

Getting to the Venue

The nearest train station is Chichester rail station which is a 10 minute walk to New Park Centre. There is some free on-site car parking which is on a first come first served basis and not able to be reserved. There are also four disabled car parking spaces in site. Next to New Park is a large public car park with pay and display.

Timings and breaks

The course runs from 10am-4.30pm. There will be two refreshment breaks and a lunch break.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee will be provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Lunch is NOT provided.

Registration fee

Your £20 registration fee for this course helps towards the additional venue and refreshment costs. This is a non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations

Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.
