Event

What is the event?

The Peer Support for Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing programme is a national Department for Education (DfE) funded programme which was piloted in 90 schools, colleges and community groups based in six regions in England.

All participating settings received evidence informed training and resources to enable them to refine or develop a peer mentoring programme to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people in their setting.

The training workshops and supporting toolkit were based on the following 5 key principles:

  • Working where young people are at
  • Involving the right people
  • Focusing on relationships
  • Being safe and boundaried
  • Encouraging young people’s ownership

The programme was externally evaluated by Ecorys who aimed to demonstrate the impact of the work in schools, colleges and community groups both quantitively and qualitatively.

This conference will mark the end of the programme. Participating schools, colleges and community groups will present their projects and share good practice. Other speakers will include representatives from the DfE and the psychologists who developed the Peer Support Programme toolkit and 5 core principles. The conference will end with a drinks reception to celebrate the programme’s achievements.
