Understanding Emotional Regulation

What is the event?

Emotional regulation is a life-long developmental process – it supports attention, motivation and social engagement. It is vital for children to acquire the ability to self-regulate for optimal social and emotional development; the ability to communicate effectively and in the development of positive relationships. For neuro-typically developing children the process is mostly learned gradually by mirroring others’ behaviour and learning from their environment almost subconsciously, but some may need more support and direct intervention in order to acquire these skills. This course will look at practical ways in which parents can support their children to develop emotional regulation in childhood.
