Course Overview

Many children have additional needs or take a little bit longer to grasp specific concepts than others. Most children are helped by good quality teaching and continue to learn at age and stage appropriate pace. If your child is really struggling and seems to find learning significantly more difficult than others or their verbal and written achievements are very disparate, they may have special educational needs that need additional intervention or support. Schools and settings have a duty to provide this – School SEND Support. If the cost of meeting these needs exceeds the amount the school is given in their notional SEN budget (usually considered to be £6,000) then the Needs Assessment process is usually required to specify these needs and how they should be met. This may result in a legally binding document known as an EHCP and sometimes, but not always, extra funding for the school.

This course will help you to better understand these processes and where your child fits in.
