What is the event?

Eligibility This is a full day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex. This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, West Sussex County Council and West Sussex CCG's.

Aims and Outcomes Awareness of Early Brain Development and Impact on functioning. Exploration of the Reptilian and Mammalian brain functioning and relevance to attachment. Parenting the brain (i.e. how to nurture it) - referring to Margot Sunderland’s work in this area. Pat Crittenden critique of brain development and how this has developed on from Bowlby and Ainsworth. Attachment styles and how to work with them. Intervention strategies, direct work ideas for individual and group work. This will involve actual examples of some of the strategies suggested during the afternoon’s experiential session. Confidentiality needs to be adhered to throughout as real images of young peoples’ work will be used and whilst permission for this has been given, confidentiality and professional boundaries needs to be adhered to accordingly. You will need to attend for the whole day and wear comfortable clothing. Some of the sessions can be messy so this is essential! Course Handbook will be given out on the day and certificates will be sent at later date.

Getting to the Venue The nearest train station is Burgess Hill and then it is a 7 minute walk to the venue. There is parking nearby which is metered and costs £1.20 for 2 hours increasing to around £7.00 for a full day. There is off-road parking around a 10 minute walk away.

Timings and breaks The course runs from 9.30am- 4.30pm. There will be two refreshment breaks.

Refreshments Tea and coffee will be provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Lunch is not provided.

Registration fee Your £15 registration fee for this course helps towards the additional venue and refreshment costs. This is a non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.
