ASD and females workshop (by the Curly Hair Project)

Event

What is the event?

Content: This workshop gives a personal insight of what it's like to live with ASD as a female, material written by Alis Rowe. As well as hearing a personal story, this workshop will cover the following themes:

why ASD is more commonly seen in males why diagnosing females might be difficult differences between males and females

Audience: females with ASD parents and families partners clinical professionals

Feedback: “I attended, unlike my friends who were there for their daughters, for me. I am 46 and with an ASD son & husband plus a history of anxiety, depression etc. have finally realised that I am on the spectrum too, so am currently pursuing a diagnosis of HF Autism/Aspergers. EVERYTHING you said rang so true for me & it helped me to realise in myself what is actually not “normal” because how are we meant to really know what is hormonal or what is going on in other people’s heads etc. It helped me think about growing up, school life, relationships etc. and showed me that masking/coping is basically how I live my life! I feel so much more confident now to “be myself”, to try to be proud of who I am and not feel uncomfortable saying “no” or asking for something to be done a different way to help me.”

“I must say it’s been the best course I’ve been on that has explained asd and I’ve actually gone away feeling like I understand more about it now.”

“To be reminded about masking was really important. I have to remind myself that just because my daughter looks like he is coping, he will still need down time and I shouldn’t push her too much.”

If numbers for this workshop are low, we will have no choice but to cancel it. Please check your email inbox and spam one or two days before the workshop is due to run as we will send you an email if it has been cancelled.
