Short breaks provide fun, leisure and social activities for children and young people with addition needs and disabilities outside the school day. This enables them to try new experiences, learn new skills, develop confidence and have fun!

Short breaks provide fun, leisure and social activities for children and young people with addition needs and disabilities outside the school day. This enables them to try new experiences, learn new skills, develop confidence and have fun!

Eligibility criteria for Short Breaks:

Reside in West Sussex;


Have additional needs and/or disability; and


Receipt of middle or high care components of DLA or PIP


How many Short Breaks can my child have?

There’s no limit to the number of Short Breaks your child/young person can take part in. You can mix and match to meet the individual needs of the child/young person and their family.

Co-production/co-design/responding to needs:

In commissioning services for children and young people in West Sussex we aim to respond to the local needs of children and young people.

  • Consultation events and surveys in 2015 which shaped commissioning intentions (services)
  • Short survey in late 2016
  • Steering Group established that included parent representatives and a young wheelchair user
  • Two parent representatives sit on the awards panel
