The Equality Act
The Equality Act 2006 extended protection against discrimination on grounds of religion or belief to include education and other services provided by schools. New regulations came into force in 2010. Special considerations apply because of the strong tradition of schools with a religious character, and the way in which religion and worship play a part in all maintained schools. The regulations allow for the right balance to be found, for example, between combating religious discrimination and maintaining the position of schools with a religious character (faith schools).
