Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity

Service

Dame Vera Lynn's Children's Charity is dedicated to supporting families with children under 5 with cerebral palsy and motor learning difficulties. Our Charity was created to give very special children a place where they can learn and thrive in a warm supportive setting that understands their unique journey.
Through our early intervention service and support network we work with families to give young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties the best possible start.

What we do:

  • We help children aged 0-5 make the best possible start in life - and give families the support and skills to continue their development at home.
  • We provide hands on active physical therapy sessions, outreach support in the home, Saturday and holiday clubs and access to a parent support network. Children will also have access to assistive technology, such as white boards, tablets and magic carpet.
  • Our service is delivered in partnership with parents in structured small group sessions to educate and help their child to develop physically, socially and emotionally, forming the bedrock of the independence they can achieve later in life
  • Our work, which is rooted in conductive education, celebrates the children we work with – no matter their ability – and shows parents and the wider world everything they can do.
  • No formal diagnosis or referral is required and families are welcome to drop into our Centre and talk to our staff, who can support them in taking the next step.

Our users say:

"Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity has been one of the most positive, supportive and loving places we have been as a family. His speech, his sitting, his standing – every aspect of his physical and cognitive development has benefited from this service."
