What we do:

  • We work with schools to develop the skills and knowledge. One of the best ways to achieve this is by working closely with families. Our Liaison Officers are there to help schools and families to forge strong links.
  • Support to schools: This includes monitoring visits, training, network meetings, a newsletter, conferences, advice and guidance.
  • Guidance on inclusive practice for GRT and BME groups: This might include strategies such as introducing the Young Interpreters Scheme (YIS) in your school or guidance for Community Languages entries (GCSE) or Distance Learning for Traveller families.
  • Family Links: This might involve a home visit or a meeting at school, where the family’s points of views, their questions and concerns can be expressed.
  • Community Links: In addition to our school training, we have provided conferences and workshops for families to talk about the benefits of speaking more than one language, in collaboration with schools in Felpham and Bognor Regis.

Our users say:

EAL Conference: Autumn 2014 ‘Not having much experience with EAL children, I found the conference very informative. It was really helpful finding out what resources I could use to support my teaching."
