Maidenbower Junior School -SSC (Special Support Centre)
Service
Maidenbower Junior School is a large, modern and inclusive mainstream junior school for 7-11 year olds. In addition to this, it has a Special Support Centre (SSC) for pupils with Autism. The SSC admits children with an EHCP with a diagnosis of autism as a primary need. The centre currently has 12 places and is equipped with a sensory room, time-out space, shower facilities and it's own outdoor play area. If you would like to visit the SSC please phone the school for an appointment.
What we do:
- We specifically support children with an Educational Health Care Plan where the main diagnosis is autism.
- We are a committed team, with a range of specialised training and expertise, who provide a supportive, nurturing and happy environment within the SSC.
- Children usually spend time in the SSC in the mornings receiving small group support for English and Maths and then are increasingly integrated into mainstream classes as they develop their skills and learning.
- Individual programmes of work are devised by the SSC teachers, with reference to additional advice from other professionals, in order to address the targets on each pupil’s Educational Health Care Plan.
- We are committed to ‘closing the gap’ by encouraging children to believe in themselves, ‘have a go’ and reach their full potential.
Our users say:
The teachers in the SSC took (child) under their wing and supported her in a way that made a massive difference to both of us.
