CHOICE (Social Care - includes the Fun and Breaks and the Children's Deaf Services)

Service

The Choice team work with children with disabilities and their families who access lower level support through Personal Budgets or Direct Payments. It also incorporates the Children's Deaf Services.

What we do:

  • Many families do not need social work involvement, but do require continued support in the form of a Personal Budget or Direct Payment. These families are able to use their own expertise of their child's strengths and needs to plan and manage their care.
  • The Choice team offer an identified keyworker to act as point of contact and advice for families, and to review their support plan annually to ensure that it continues to meet the child's needs and those of the family.

This week (half term) our son's two PAs took him to the "Explore Your Senses" PA event in Burgess Hill. All three of them had a great time! Our son enjoyed the craft activities and his PAs reported that it was well-organised by friendly staff, and they appreciated the opportunity to chat with other PAs. Thank you!

"⁣Back in April our daughter was offered the opportunity of a series of sessions with the Choices Team to develop her independent travel in our local area.

Emily and Becki had a meeting with us and the overview of the project was carefully laid out. Different stages were planned taking into account our daughter's personality and ability, and appropriate targets were set. Our daughter was included in all discussions and was made to feel very much in control of the pace at which the sessions progressed.

The programme was, without doubt, a resounding success. Our daughter's confidence grew week by week as she walked further from home by herself to meet Becki at pre-arranged points.

The main objective was for her to walk by herself to the swimming pool for her weekly lesson and then from there, with a friend, to her drama class, and she has done it!

We can't thank Becki enough for all she has done for us. It wasn't just her overall open friendliness, it was the fact that she realised my husband and I were on a journey too. This has helped us to "let go" a lot more than we ever believed possible, and has led to our daughter progressing to other travel adventures through the school holidays.

    Thank you. "
