Hazelwick School

Service

We believe that every student can achieve their maximum potential including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). We are committed to providing an excellent education for all our students to enable them to fulfil their potential, both academically and in wider aspects of life.

What we do:

  • We have a dedicated and experienced team in the Learning Support Department. The SENDCo and specialist teachers are involved in ensuring that provision is appropriate to needs. Teaching staff are responsible for quality first teaching, with adaptations.
  • Pastoral care is designed to support our students through all aspects of their education and welfare in school. Our students have daily contact with their form tutor and each year group is supported by two Heads of Year and one Pastoral coordinator.
  • Support is allocated depending on the level of need and impact of interventions. If a young person has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), we ensure that statutory requirements are met.
  • We have a Special Support Centre for D/deaf students. Our approach incorporates the use of BSL/SSE, and we support students with varying communication needs. We have a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Communication Support Assistants with BSL levels 2-6.
  • We ensure students can access their teaching spaces. We have lift access to some first and second-floor classrooms; lessons for students with physical disabilities are planned in accessible classrooms. Disabled toilets are situated around the school.
