Cornfield is a school maintained by West Sussex County Council, for students aged 9 to 16 who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.

For all our students, our aim is to provide a supportive learning environment in which they can grow into responsible young people ready to take their place in the world of work. We recognise that each student is an individual, with individual needs, and plan their education accordingly.

What we do:

Academic qualifications: GCSEs are offered in all core subjects as well as PE, Art, DT and Humanities, with Functional Skills offered in ICT plus a wide range of AQA unit awards and sports awards.
Vocational learning: college links to vocational courses in construction, mechanics, computing, public services, animal care, and agriculture as well as block work experience placements in a wide range of local companies and organisations.
Behaviour management: strategies for self-help and for managing challenging young people, so that they can make responsible choices and have ownership of their behaviour.
Sport: throughout the school there is an enthusiastic focus on being active with national awards offered to KS4 including canoeing, climbing and mountain leadership as well as Forest Schools awards in KS2 & KS3, plus an extensive AQA unit awards scheme.
Extending the curriculum: Cross-curricular week-long projects, one each term, which focus on utilising the skills learnt in the classroom while developing an understanding of Community, Business & Enterprise and Healthy Lifestyle Choices.
