Occupational Therapy - Independent Living Service - West Sussex County Council

Service

Occupational therapists are focused on supporting children and young people to achieve their own personal goals, and in facilitating carers to assist children and young people with daily living tasks. The occupational therapist works with the child/ young person and parent/carers to identify what needs there may be. Once individual needs have been identified the occupational therapist will offer advice, information, and may provide equipment and adaptation that meet the assessed need.

What we do:

  • Assessment of needs, specifically Occupational Therapy - please note that referrals are taken by Adults' CarePoint. Both Adults' CarePoint and the WSCC Children's Occupational Therapists come under the Independent Living Service
  • Information will be taken over the phone by a member of staff at Adults' CarePoint and if the referral is felt to be appropriate it will be passed to the relevant locality team. Please note - there is currently a waiting time for services.
  • A face-to-face assessment will be undertaken by a registered HCPC Occupational Therapist
  • The assessment will establish the needs of the child. These may be information and advice, equipment, adaptations or referral on to other services.
