Orchards Infant School
Service
Orchards Infant School is a mainstream infant school which in addition has a Special Support Centre (SSC) for children who have a significant speech and/or language disorder. We are committed to ensuring that all our children can reach their potential. We aim to create a happy, safe, inclusive and caring environment where every child is valued and respected as an individual.
What we do:
- Children in the SSC are very much part of our school and have the same opportunities as mainstream children. They usually spend part of their day in the SSC but are also part of a mainstream class.
- We provide a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. We value collaborative working with parents and carers and work hard to foster and encourage this.
- The teacher and speech therapist work together closely to provide appropriate provision for each child.
- We provide a nurturing and supportive environment in which our children can thrive and make their voices heard.
- To be considered for a place within the SSC children must have an Education Health Care Plan and have been identified as having significant receptive and/or expressive language needs.
Our users say:
‘Your specialised teaching ability, staff and school are the difference to a child like mine. I cannot explain how content we feel in knowing that bringing him to the SSC has given him the chance to thrive and be himself.’
