Brighton, Hove and West Sussex Deaf Childrens Society

Service

Brighton, Hove and West Sussex Deaf Society is a local group for d/Deaf and hearing impaired children and their families.

Our aim is to provide support, information, fun, and friendship for d/Deaf children and their families.

We run a variety of events throughout the year, which recently have included the i360, pony rides, Fishers Farm, Tulleys Farm, park meet-ups, coffee mornings and not forgetting our annual pantomime trips and annual holidays too!

Membership is FREE!

What we do:

  • We are a charity that is run primarily by volunteers. Our committee consists of a board of parents who all have D/deaf or hearing-impaired children.
  • Our aim is to help as many families as possible by offering support, information and fun. We offer days out, meet-ups, a members-only Facebook page and a supportive and welcoming committee to help provide you with information and support.
  • We offer a range of events to suit all ages, capabilities and communication. Our committee is actively looking into pursuing their British Sign Language further in order to be able to communicate more effectively with the members that use it.
  • We welcome all those with any level of deafness or hearing impairments. Those who are awaiting a diagnosis, those with grommets, those who wear Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants, Bone-anchored Hearing Aids and those who choose to not wear anything.
  • We primarily support children from birth to 18 years. We do welcome those whom also have a temporary hearing loss e.g grommets / glue ear.

Our users say:

"my child was lonely before we became part of the group now they have friends and love supporting younger members too" "i love seeing other children like me!" "since joining i myself have made friends and met many understanding and non judgemental people
