What is the event?
Eligibility
This is a full day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex. This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, West Sussex County Council and West Sussex CCGs.
Aims and Outcomes
- On this one-day course, you will be shown a review of current suicide statistics in West Sussex.
- Triggers and risk factors for young people and suicide inc. family, academic triggers, bereavement etc.
- High risk groups e.g.looked after children, homeless etc.
- Conditions increasing the risk of suicide
- Life event triggers
- Strategies for carers, staff and volunteers
- Safety planning
- Self care for care givers
- Local services and resources
- What we know about how YP's communicate about thoughts of suicide
- Suicide:the internet and social media
Getting to the venue
By Car Follow the brown signs to the Regis Centre. We are between Belmont Street and the Esplanade, There is a large car park next door. The parking charges are £3.20 for 4 hours and £7 for all day. You may find some free off-street parking in the roads nearby, within a 10 minute walk. FOR SAT NAV THE POST CODE IS PO21 1BL.
By Bus Take a bus to Bognor Regis High Street. Walk east towards the main shopping parade (London Road) and turn right through the arcade. We are located at the end of the arcade (5 minutes walk). By Train Take a train to Bognor Regis station. Leave the station by the main exit through the booking hall. Turn left to the main shopping precinct (London Road). Cross into the arcade. We are located at the end (10 minutes walk).
Timings The course runs from 09.30am to 4.30pm.
Refreshments Tea and coffee with also be provided during mid-morning and mid-afternoon break times. It is essential that you arrive on time and complete the course. If this is not possible please inform us by email before proceeding to book at [email protected]
Registration fee Your £15 registration fee is non-refundable.
Cancellations
Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend this course as this course is heavily subsidised as it is a funded programme. Our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Please inform us if you are unable to take up your space as we can offer this to someone on our waiting list.

If you have recent lived experience of suicide this may not be the right time for you to take this course. If you have any concerns about this please email us and a trainer can talk to you about this.
